Government Accelerates Rural Connectivity and Economic Growth with Launch of Strategic Road Projects in Murang’a County

H.E. President William Ruto today launched key road infrastructure projects in Murang'a County, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and accelerating socio-economic development.

The President launched the upgrade to bitumen 15.5 km Kiriko–Kagumoini–Gitugi–Chui–Karugia Road (RWC 690), a project set to open up rural areas by improving access to markets, schools, and essential services. The road is expected to boost local trade, create employment opportunities, and drive inclusive growth at the grassroots.

Later, the President officially launched the upgrading to bitumen standard of the Kandara – Karima Mwaro – Gituya, Nguthuru – Gatitu – Karima Mwaro & Kibereke – Naaro – Kaburugi – Gatitu Road (45 km) under Contract No. RWC 733. The transformative project will significantly improve connectivity across Kandara and its environs, support agricultural value chains, and enhance access to key social amenities.

Upon completion, the roads will stimulate trade in major market centres such as Gatitu and Karima Mwaro, unlock economic potential, and improve livelihoods for communities across the county.

The Government continues to prioritize road infrastructure as a critical enabler of connectivity, economic expansion, and improved livelihoods nationwide.

The President was accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua, Director General of Kenya Rural Roads Authority Eng. Jackson Magondu, alongside other local leaders.
