Elgeyo Marakwet, County, Sunday 9th November, 2025 – Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir yesterday joined First Lady H.E Rachel Ruto in Chesongoch, Marakwet County, to console families affected by the recent landslide that claimed lives and cut off key road network links in the region.
The government has pledged swift action to restore normalcy, with the Ministry of Roads and Transport—through KeNHA—already deploying teams to clear debris and reopen the Chesongoch–Tot– Barpelo–Sigor–Marich Pass Road, which had been rendered impassable.
CS Chirchir said the ongoing road works in the area reflect the government’s strategy to develop durable, climate- resilient infrastructure that enhances connectivity and supports disaster response.
“Our goal is to build roads that not only link communities but also withstand the impacts of extreme weather and aid emergency operations,” he said.
Also present were Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior and National Administration) Geoffrey Ruku (Public Service) Elgeyo Marakwet Governor, Wisley Rotich, KeNHA Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli, and local leaders alongside humanitarian agencies involved in relief efforts.
