CS Chirchir Inspects Progress of the Illasit–Taveta Road Project

The Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Davis Chirchir, today toured Kajiado South to inspect the ongoing construction of the Illasit–Taveta Road. He was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua.

During the inspection, the leadership team assessed progress on key components of the project, including bridges and culverts, which are now at advanced stages of completion. At Maandakini, they witnessed substantial progress in the tarmacking works, underscoring steady momentum in project implementation.

The road project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by February 2027.

Upon completion, the Illasit–Taveta Road will significantly enhance connectivity between Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties and strengthen cross-border linkages with Tanzania. The improved corridor will reduce travel time, lower vehicle operating costs, and facilitate the efficient and safe movement of people and goods.

The project is also expected to unlock the economic potential of the region by improving access to agricultural areas, boosting trade, and supporting tourism around the Amboseli and Tsavo ecosystems. Additionally, it will enhance access to social services such as schools and health facilities, while improving security and emergency response along the border corridor.

Present during the inspection were the Ag. Director General of KeRRA, Eng. Jackson K. Magondu, the Ag. Director General of KeNHA, Eng. Lukas Kimeli, Kajiado South MP Hon. Sakimba Parashina, Taveta MP Hon. John Bwire, and Taita Taveta County Women Representative Hon. Lydia Haika Mnene Mizighi.
