PS Mbugua Hosts EIB Mission to Review Progress on Mombasa Port Access Road Project

The Principal Secretary, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, today hosted a delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB) led by Mr. Sławomir Żułtak, Head of the Global Partners Unit, who are in the country for a five-day monitoring mission to assess progress on key infrastructure projects.

The meeting, which served as a debriefing session on the Regional Mombasa Port Access Road project, brought together representatives from the EIB, the European Union (EU), KfW, and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

Discussions focused on the progress of the Mombasa–Mariakani (A109) Highway Project, particularly the Kwa Jomvu–Mariakani section. Key construction milestones were highlighted, alongside challenges including delayed disbursement of funds, pending contractor payments, and land acquisition constraints.

The Principal Secretary reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the timely delivery of the project, noting its strategic importance in enhancing access to the Port of Mombasa, facilitating regional connectivity, and supporting economic growth.

The meeting further underscored the need to expedite disbursements, finalize clearance of remaining sections, and accelerate implementation in line with revised project timelines.
