Kenya Secures World Bank Financing to Upgrade Key Sections of the Isiolo–Mandera Regional Road Corridor

Nairobi: The Principal Secretary for Roads, Joseph Mbugua, successfully led a Government delegation in negotiations with the World Bank Group, securing two credits to support the upgrading of key sections of the Isiolo–Mandera Regional Road Corridor.
The financing will provide additional support to the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project, including the upgrading of 365 km of the Isiolo–Mandera road and 40 km of spur roads to more climate-resilient standards. It will also fund the upgrading of the Modogashe–Samatar (67 km) and Rhamu–Mandera (76 km) sections to bituminous standard with enhanced climate-resilient designs.
Through this support, the World Bank will finance a total of 508 km of the 740 km Isiolo–Mandera corridor, as well as an additional 65 km of spur roads, significantly advancing the transformation of this critical regional transport route.

The delegation included representatives from the State Department for Transport,  National Treasury and  Economic Planning, the Office of the Auditor-General, Kenya, the Ministry of Roads and Transport, and implementing agencies Kenya National Highways Authority, Kenya Revenue Authority, ICT Authority, and NTSA.

The State Department for Roads remains committed to accelerating project delivery to enhance regional connectivity, boost trade, and improve livelihoods for communities along the Isiolo–Mandera Corridor.
