Strengthening Strategic Communication Across the Roads Sub-Sector

Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, today chaired a Strategic Communication Meeting that brought together the Roads Sub-Sector management, technical teams and communication officers to enhance coordination, strengthen public engagement and improve information dissemination on road projects and programmes across the sector.

The Principal Secretary emphasised that Government communication must be timely, accurate, coordinated and fact-based, clearly demonstrating the impact of road infrastructure on connectivity, economic activity, access to services and the quality of life for Kenyans.

He called for closer collaboration between technical and communication teams, harmonised messaging across institutions and effective use of digital media platforms to provide timely and accessible information to the public. He further underscored the need for verified and up-to-date information on project progress, road conditions, emergencies and weather-related developments.

Eng. Mbugua urged the teams to adopt a proactive and coordinated approach to communication, supported by reliable information-sharing and joint response mechanisms. He noted that Government delivery must not only be achieved, but also be visible, understood and trusted by Kenyans.

The meeting was attended by Kenya Roads Board (KRB) Director General, Mrs. Judith Otsyula; Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) Director General, Eng. Jackson Mangondu; Chief Engineer, Materials Testing and Research Directorate, Eng. Albert Ndege; and Chief Engineer, Mechanical and Transport Directorate, Eng. Richard Thitai, alongside technical representatives from the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), KeNHA and KURA, as well as Heads of Communication from the State Department for Roads and its agencies.
